When we provide the Stop24-check report email, this is provided to you in either English, Spanish, German, Dutch or French. This summarises the top 20 key points you'll need about the vehicle in your chosen language. Bearing in mind the language of a report is Spanish the report is also in Spanish.
To help we have listed below each heading from the trafico report and what each item could mean.
Each report can be a little different, this is based around the initial data first recorded by the first owner registering the vehicle. Upon first registering, if the person whom registered it gave this information it would be present on the report. If they didn't there may be blank spaces.
The report can only show what data has been previously entered. Or what has happened since then.
Please use the translations below to fully understand the items on your report. Revert to the FAQ's section should you have any questions over and above this, and if no luck there please feel free to email us via the email form or call us on (+34) 965 734 790. The telephone service is only operated at this time in English.
What is the Jefatura provincial de tráfico This is the Traffic Department (equivalent to the DVLA in th UK) where vehicles are registered and anything to do with vehicle ownership takes place.
The main office is in Madrid and there are several provincial offices around Spain.
Before STOP24, sorting out vehicle checks usually means a trip to the office and a potentially long queue, or using the services of a Gestor. You can’t just post off documents and hope you get the right piece of paper back, as with many formalities in Spain you need to be there in person.
The Jefatura provincial de tráfico is also sometimes just referred to as ‘tráfico’

None Spanish registration vehicles You can choose to do a voluntary ITV. For any European registered vehicle. i.e. you choose to do it..
We would point out that if the MOT for your vehicle has expired from your home country (where the vehicle is currently registered) and you do not have a valid ITV. Your insurance may be invalid. As there is no proof this is a road worthy vehicle. - Consult FAQ's
Spanish law does also state that if you conform to a Spanish ITV, you are obliged to transfer he vehicle onto Spanish plates within a 6 month period
DEFECTOS CALIFICADOS; Did it require any work attention?
LIMITACIONES DE DISPOSICION; PROBABLY THE MOST CRITICAL PART OF THE REPORT. IF YOUR VEHICLE HAS THIS PLEASE BE VERY CAREFUL.
CONCEPTO; Will show 'RESERVA'. The vehicle has a reservation against it YOU CAN STILL PURCHASE THE VEHICLE BUT YOU WILL BE UNABLE TO PUT IT INTO YOUR NAME UNLESS YOU SORT OUT WHAT THE RESERVA IS FOR. Speak to the current owner and try to find out what is wrong. Or, STOP24 can perform a more detailed check on the vehicle in the 'Mercantile' register and find out exactly who has made the reserva and what it's for.
This debt may be as simple as a traffic fine, finance, unpaid taxes or import duty.
IF YOU HAVE BOUGHT THE CAR WITHOUT A CHECK AND FIND THIS YOU WILL HAVE TO TRY AND RESOLVE IT WITH THE OWNER. If you can't the vehicle will never be in your name and unsellable unless the new buyer is unsuspecting.
NO. REGISTRO; This is where the debt has been registered. usually REGIS.B.M. This is a central office in Spain for all registrations of debts or embargos. May also show AEAT, which is the Spanish tax office known as the Hacienda. If you see AEAT it is likley the Hacienda has blocked all the owners posessions in order to obtain what it is owed by that person.
FECHA: Date this was registered.
FINANCIERA Y DOMICILIO; Usually a reference number.
EMBARGOS Y PRECINTOS; PROBABLY THE MOST CRITICAL PART OF THE REPORT. IF YOUR VEHICLE HAS THIS PLEASE BE VERY CAREFUL.
CONCEPTO; Will show 'EMBARGO'
This is identical to 'RESERVA' above. But in this case YOU CAN BUY the vehicle and put it into your name. You then become fully liable for anything previously registered against this vehicle. This could be unpaid tax, finance, fines or something similar and has been placed against the vehicle.
By simply registering the vehicle you would not find out about any Embargos until someone makes a claim.
EXPEDIENTE; This is where the debt has been registered. Usually REGIS.B.M. This is a central office in Spain for all registrations of debts or embargos.
FECHA: Date this was registered.
DATOS DE AUTORIDAD; Usually a reference number.
BAJA TEMPORAL Means that the vehicle is listed as currently not being used. i.e. a declaration of none use. When you register it in your name you would have to change this.
TRANSFERENCIA The current owner has paid a small fee (currently 7,88c) to trafico. This is a notification of a transfer 'underway'. The owner may do this if, for example; a buyer had agreed to buy the car from them and then prior to it being put it the new owners name.
The owness transfers from the seller to the buyer once this has been completed. i.e. you can then pay the seller and drive away. The law allows 30 days to complete the transfer but usually this is not strict.
Once this is conducted it is up to the buyer to complete the transfer and pay the fees due.
If you see this in your report you have to fulfill this transferencia already in progress in full. Before you then can start the process again and put it into your now name.
This means you have to ensure the buyer listed on the transferencia completes it then sells it to you. If you can not contact this person our advice would be to find another vehicle as it gets very complicated and you will end up paying double the fees to get the vehicle into your name and add another owner. You may also end up with paying for a vehicle and not be able to put it into your name.
A car dealer may sometimes do this as they are listed as the buyer. They will then complete that transfer and put it into your name as part of the purchase from the dealership.
Road Tax - Impuesto Sobre Vehiculos Road tax is paid each year on each vehicle to the respective town hall or SUMA office where the vehicle is registered. Unfortunately the Trafico have only started in 2009 recording and reporting if road tax is outstanding on their reports. It is not a requirement here to have road tax paid in order to get an ITV. (MOT).
If you have a current tax certificate ' Impuesto Sobre Vehiculos' you can be assured the previous years tax have been paid. It is only possible to tax the vehicle for the current year if the previous years taxes have been paid.
SUMMARY
If there were any recorded debts, traffic fines, lost or stolen, recovered or accidents for this vehicle this would be present on this report. If nothing shows you can be pretty certain it’s a clean vehicle.
If any finance has been taken out on a vehicle there is a short time before this is registered against the vehicle. This is dependent upon how quickly the loan company register the debt. Usually 24 hours.
STOP24 cannot be held liable in any way, consequential or otherwise for any inaccuracies in the report provided by the Jefatura Tráfico.
